Drawing with Light...

In 1949, LIFE photographer Gjon Mili introduced Pablo Picasso to his photographs of ice skaters with lights attached to their skates. Picasso was inspired to work with Mili on creating his own works. LIFE magazine reported, "Picasso gave Mili 15 minutes to try one experiment. He was so fascinated by the result that he posed for five sessions, projecting 30 drawings of centaurs, bulls, Greek profiles and his signature."

The process...
In a dark room, Picasso uses a small flashlight, AKA "light pencil," to draw a design/drawing in the air. Mili sets up two cameras (side and front views) and leaves the shutter open to capture the movement of the light.

I have attempted a similar process myself, and let's just say Picasso's results were much better. I love that you can see Picasso physically moving in some of the photographs. That man had some agility!!!
